Six Canoes Capsized?!?!

The Canoe trip started on Friday June 4, and we started at Aquapog at 6:00. We pitched our tents, and enjoyed the little beach we found. A few of us went in. We found out a little later that the Russells’ car broke down on the highway in the middle of a storm, and Mr. Fowler came to the rescue. He brought back Fred and Will. After that Aidan and Justin built a fort near the little beach under some roots they found. Later that evening we tried to start a fire which didn’t work because the wood was wet, so we all just relaxed and enjoyed the sounds of nature. Then most of us went to bed.

The next morning we got up fairly early and we took down our tents. Then Sam P. assigned patrols to cook their breakfast while the others would pack up their stuff. Easy Patrol went first for cooking, they had Oatmeal for breakfast. Then the Skyscraper patrol went second with eggs for breakfast. Next was the Best patrol. Their breakfast of pancakes didn’t turn out so great. After that we waterproofed our bags and brought them to the cars. Next we did police lines,(a police line is when you walk slowly in a line to look for trash), and we left to go get the Canoes and to go to the boat launch. When we got to the boat launch we unpacked our gear and got in the Canoes. Mr. Cardin taught us some water safety and we got into the water. We were off! We went down the Pawcatuck River a little bit and then Steven and Hunter capsized, so we got to where we were staying (Mr. Gardener’s farm), a little late. When we got there we unpacked, pitched our tents and got a fire going so we could eat then. Thomas provided S’mores for all the scouts, and we made a nice fire. Then we all went to bed very fast because we were exhausted.
The next morning some of us were so tired that other scouts had to wake them up. Then we packed up everything and brought our stuff to the canoes. After That we did police lines again, and a 360 review. A 360 review is when the whole troop sits down together, and talks about how we thought the trip went. Next we got into the canoes and paddled off. We got to a rapid spot where on the left it was less water and more drop, and on the right it was more water and less drop. So we went through the rapids,(on the right side) before they even got into the rapids, Alex and Aidan crashed into a log and  gained a lot of water then we went down the rapids,(luckily they didn’t capsize), and we waited for the other groups to come down the rapids. It was unbelievable, three Canoes in a row capsized and one of them gained so much water that it needed to be bailed out. Some of the scouts eventually had to get out of our canoes to help the other canoe with so much water get to shore. Eventually we got going again. Around 1:00 we got to the final boat launch in Westerly. We were done! We were exhausted, dirty, and wet. We put all our bags in our cars and went home feeling great that we had accomplished such a great achievement.
